T4 · Part-Time · Co-op

You worked part-time and received a T4

Seasonal, part-time, or co-op placement income — you need to file a return and may be entitled to a refund.

T2202 · Tuition Credit

You have a T2202 tuition certificate from your school

Your post-secondary institution issued a T2202 for eligible fees paid this year. That certificate is a federal tax credit — and any unused portion carries forward indefinitely.

Scholarship · Bursary · Grant

You received a scholarship, bursary, or grant

Some amounts are taxable, some are exempt. We calculate what’s reportable and file it correctly.

01

Share your situation

You fill in our intake form and upload your documents — T4, T2202, and any other slips. A checklist tells you exactly what to gather.

02

Your file is assigned

We assign a tax expert to your file. Not whoever’s available that day — the right person for your situation.

03

Prepare

Your expert prepares the return and checks every credit that applies. Anything that needs your input gets flagged before the file moves forward.

04

Review & File

You go through the return with your expert in a short session. Once you’re satisfied, it goes directly to CRA.

Credits most students don’t know to claim

Filing your return is what unlocks these. Most students don’t know to claim at least one of them.

Four credits worth filing for

Tuition tax credit (T2202). Your T2202 shows the eligible fees your school charged this year. The federal credit is 15% of those fees — plus a provincial credit on top. If your income is too low to use it all, the unused amount carries forward to future years, when it’s worth more.

GST/HST credit. Most students qualify. CRA calculates the amount based on your income and age — but only after you file. A missed return means missed quarterly payments, and you can’t claim them retroactively.

Moving expenses. Relocated more than 40 km closer to a full-time post-secondary program? Moving costs may be deductible against your scholarship income or employment income earned at the new location.

RRSP contribution room. Every dollar of earned income adds to your RRSP contribution room. It starts at 18. File this year, and that room is open — even if contributing is years away.

“As a teacher, I’m not very familiar with filing taxes properly. If I had used tax software like many of my friends, I would not have been able to save the money that Count myAccount saved me. They were excellent in their communications, responded to my questions very quickly, and explained my tax papers to me.”

Student tax questions, answered

Do I need to file if I had little or no income?
Yes — and it’s worth it even with zero income. Filing unlocks your GST/HST credit, builds your RRSP contribution room, and records your tuition credits for carryforward. CRA cannot issue any of this automatically. It only happens when you file.
What is the tuition tax credit and how do I claim it?
Your school issues a T2202 with your eligible tuition amount. We report it on your return. The current-year credit gets calculated, and any carryforward balance is recorded automatically. You don’t track the numbers — that’s part of the engagement.
Is my scholarship or bursary taxable?
It depends. Scholarships for full-time post-secondary students are generally exempt up to the cost of the program. Bursaries and certain grants may be partially taxable. We review what’s reportable and file it accurately.
What if I also have employment income?
Both are covered in the $57.99 Student package — T4 income and T2202 tuition reporting are included. If you have self-employment income or GST/HST obligations on top of that, a different package applies. We confirm that during intake.

File this year. Your credits don’t wait.
